Women In Corporate Aviation Announces Over $60,000 In
2021 Spring Scholarship Offerings
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – January 28, 2021– Women in Corporate Aviation (WCA) is pleased to announce the spring scholarship program. The future is bright despite the challenges of 2020, thanks to you, our dedicated sponsors, WCA members, and many amazing volunteers.
We are honored to start 2021 with this inspiring lineup of spring scholarship offerings, supported by such a continuously generous industry. We have made several improvements to help grow our scholarship program including investing in new scholarship software. The software is allowing us to transition from a manual to an automated process providing greater communication and an elevated experience from start to finish for each applicant and sponsor. “The impact of this program is beyond calculation,” according to Laura Scanlan, President of WCA. We have seen firsthand how these scholarships propel the lives of the recipients and the success of business aviation work force.
Helen Hagg, recipient of the 2020 CAE Citation Initial Type Rating Scholarship, had this to say about the program:
“I am so grateful to WCA and CAE for awarding me the Citation Bravo Type Rating Scholarship. I encourage all members of WCA to seek out and apply for scholarships to expand their horizons. The value of a scholarship is not just monetary, it is a blessing that will last a lifetime. This experience has sharpened my skills as a professional pilot through learning CRM and teamwork with the added benefit of building lasting friendships. This opportunity has helped move my aviation career to the next flight level. Scholarships are an open door to opportunity and the ticket to your future in aviation!”
Just to give you a little history of the program- 27 years ago, a group of amazing women started on a mission to support others. They began a grassroots movement to provide scholarships, networking and mentoring to help connect women with opportunities to thrive in corporate aviation. That program took off and has since grown significantly. Over these last 15 years, WCA has awarded 219 scholarships valued at $703,520.00. The program’s expansion is the direct result of massive, selfless efforts of many volunteers, sponsors and applicants who recognize the positive impact they have on our industry, and the importance of the long hours and donated funds in our quest to support and connect each other.
From all of us on the scholarship team, we wish all of our ever-impressive applicants success as they apply for the 2021 scholarships. We remind them simultaneously that success doesn’t always come from receiving an award. Being part of an inspiring network of women and men that continue to blaze a trail for others and are always willing to help is what the organization represents.
